About Me

I’m an investigative journalist who likes to dig up stories that focus on the nexus between government and the private sector. I’ve led local, state and national investigations on behalf of American Public Media and serve as a player/coach to local public radio stations looking to do investigative work. I can navigate around a spreadsheet, am comfortable handling a microphone and love doing long-form narrative writing.

Prior to my time at APM Reports, I worked for more than a decade as the chief politics and statehouse reporter for Minnesota Public Radio News. I covered two statewide recounts, two presidential elections, two state government shutdowns and too many legislative hearings to remember. I also worked as a reporter at Indiana Public Radio in Muncie, Indiana.

My work has appeared nationally on NPR, Marketplace, BBC News, The Takeaway and ProPublica.

While my work has either won or contributed to several state and national awards, I’m proudest of teaching my colleagues new tricks and formally preparing University of Minnesota students to be the next generation of journalists.

I’m a proud graduate of Syracuse University.
